Very nice.
The Southern Sanitary supplies aids and mails to the troops. I hesitate to do a write up about the weekend. I think Biffa would have described it as 'Blindin' - he usualy did. Having access to a town, particularly one as welcoming as Laredo, is certainly comforting when the winter chills put an end to campaigning. As our brigade had suffered such fearful losses during the last 'elephant show' we could all be accomodated in huts and cabins. The few survivors who managed to pull back to civilisation were certainly relieved to be there, consequently their 'thanks-giving' was all the more heartfelt. You can see how fierce the fightin' was from the bandaging around our Sgt's fearful head wound. A wound which has left him with some behavioural oddities. A propensity to sleep, cuss and drink which would surely shock those who knew him before this cruel war came. Well, I guess I'd better stop now as I still have to write to my ma and pop before the light goes. The mails caught up with us at the town and the boys were overjoyed to get news from home, 'cept for the one or two who got 'Dear Johns'. Still at least they had a saloon to drown their sorrows in and a collection of fine looking town wimen to comfort them. I saw them queuin up at the doc's office the next mornin -jest to be ok'd I'm sure. I also think that one or two of them township boys would do well to come along and help us out when the fightin season starts next year. They look kinda useful and are wasted jest hangin around the town bars all day. On behalf of the boys I must express our thanks to the good citizens of Laredo and hope to maintain our good relations for a long time to come. A. Clayton. |

An excellent event. We were made very welcome by all townsfolk. An incredible evening, made all the more fantastic by the mix of civillians and military in the salon.
My thanks to Horace (if anyone can pass them on to him) for giving us the use of a log cabin for the night The photos were great. Chris, chris and jamie (IOWA boys) |

I'll pass on the message to Oriss, it's spelt like they prodounce it down there, also George is joint owner owner of the mining camp, so I'll mention it to him also.
I'm sure if there's no probems you'll all be welcome to use them again. It's only been a year since the V.C.s first visit to Laredo and initialy the towns folk were a bit reluctant to have you there. During the last twelve months however there has been some good friendships made and close ties now exist between the V.C. and Laredo township. We're really all not that different. Boot. |

Hi Boot.
Did I leave my dark brown civy pants in your van, they are new/unused and far to short in the leg for you. I'll have them back if you can find them! Andy. |
