Va State buttons were issued to virginia troops same as South Carolina Buttons went to South Carolina troops and so on and so forth, these State Buttons stem back to the Militia days.
As the war progressed these state issues became less and less available , although quite a few did keep at least one state button for their uniforms, but not everybody.
The Eagle button was actually a Federal Issue button, but as the South had large stocks, they utilised them.
Other buttons used were, wood, brass,coin, pewter, just to name a few.
So unless we are going to portray a single unit then State buttons maybe appropriate but as we don't they aren't.
