Thank you for your interest in the Springfield. I will bring it to Bath for you to look at.
However, having checked with my local police about transferring a gun to a non uk resident they referred me to the DTI, and a helpful guy referred me to the DTI guidance on the export of Arms. It seems that the regulations and paperwork governing selling a black powder muzzle loading musket to a law abiding French reenactor is the same as that required to export a tank or jet fighter aircraft to the government of Zimbabwe! I need to re-read it but a personal export exemption only applies if you are the end user, eg taking your gun to use in France or Germany and bringing it back, not leaving it there. Extract from DTI e-mail below. Graham Beattie Lazy Jacks Mess Graham, Further to our telephone conversation, here is a link to the export of firearms guidance on our website: http://www.berr.gov.uk/europeandtrade/strategic-export-control/licensing-rating/guidance/page30627.html . The guidance itself is embedded in the page and you need to follow the link below the words "For details view the document:" Please read it thoroughly. That may be easiest if you print it. As the guidance explains, the normal requirement when exporting firearms is for the exporter first to obtain an export licence. You will need to seek advice from other sources on whether the 'Personal Effects' waiver could apply in your circumstances. To apply for a licence please visit our SPIRE website. A link is provided on the page. To become a new user you would need to go through the on-line registration process. Here is a link to guidance on Standard Individual Export Licence End User Undertaking: http://www.berr.gov.uk/europeandtrade/strategic-export-control/licensing-rating/guidance/undertakings/page8631.html. Should you require any further advice please call our Helpline again on the number shown below.
