Just noticed that MB&S are now taking credit card and PayPal payments. Not sure how long this has been the case, maybe you all ready know, but this makes ordering and paying a lot easier.

Martyn,
Which Federal Brogans do you recommend for our impressions Martyn? And if one was upgrading one's Accoutrements, which would be the Cartridge Box, Belt, Sling and Cap Box you'd recommend? Nobby

Chris,
I can give you specific recommendations for the items you mention, particularly Brogans, as I've had a long experience with MB&S products. Also there are other vendors you may wish to consider for certain items. I've literally just got off a plane from Toronto so let me get myself together and I'll get back to you. The accoutrements you mention; are these CS or US Best, Patrick |

Hey Pat,
I'm tempted by the deal Duvall leatherwork is offering on a complete early war Fed accoutrement kit.....

Why do not you see with Jan for one part and you take things directly in Munster?
I can give if somebody needs for Munster: One Schuylkill Arsenal Fatigue blouse. Two bumer, one in 7 1/8 and one in 7 1/4. (i think hate it's better, but...) Brogans in size 9. One Bullseye canteen. Two Blancket. One scabbard 7 rivet.

Chris,
I would certainly go with the Duval US deal. I've recently taken delivery of a number of his boxes, pouches and belts and they are superb, almost too good!!!!!. In fact, if you wish to order the set from him asap I could pick it up for you at Gettysburg the week after next if it's ready, as he will be there on Sutlers' Row. (Would save on shipping) I'll give you my recommendation for MBS brogans very shortly (need to get on to their site). The pair I have are the best I've ever seen and worn and are as comfortable as any modern shoes. They got me through BGR with no discomfort whatsoever, not even the slightest rub!!!! I recommend them to anyone considering upgrading their footware. Best, Patrick |

Chris & All interested in MBS Boots,
Have now refreshed my memory re. the BEST boots I've ever worn. Go to the MB&S site and click on "American Military Footwear". Scroll down to "JB-SPO Jefferson Bootee". These are the most expensive at $290.00 (£150.00) but they're worth every penny; you will not regret the expenditure. Bob Serio insists that you provide the foot measurements he requires which means that your boots will be made to order. Also, don't forget to specify the hobnail/heel plate arrangement you want. These boots, whilst of a Federal pattern, will also do for Confederate impressions as there are a multitude of accounts of footwear being "exchanged" or "liberated". Best, Patrick |

Hi Chris,
I bought my two cartridge boxes from Rob Serio at MB&S BACK IN 2005. I purchased an 1857 Cartridge box - which i left unadorned for either Confederate or Federal impression up to January 1862. Post that date i purchased a CS Storms box for Federal only which i have the keeper mounted on. I was also able to purchase a CS Storms stamped sling from Jersey Skillet Licker when they used to have good stocks which are now sadly lacking. The sling came with the Eagle breast plate already mounted which has W.H.Smith, Brooklyn engraved on the rear. I also purchased the respective Percussion Cap pouches to go with the Cartridge boxes at the same time. At the time of order i had to raise a money order to pay for my goods but happily credit card sales have been adopted. all the best Grits. |
