Cheers Gus,
What an absolutley fantastic weekend.Thanks everybody for your efforts, patience, and hard work,The NCO'S did a blinding job, the Musicians were fantastic (all three of them). The Scotts drill looked awesome from where I was standing. Everyones efforts shone through this weekend and we did ourselves proud. Civilians.. absolutely cracking, and a superb accompaniement to the over all setting for this weekend, "Brilliant"!!! So so many thanks have to go out this weekend so I will just have to say thank you to each and everyone of you who turned up and made this event work so well. Thank you fellers. SteveB. Steve Boulton

Phew, glad I wasn't working today, I'm cream crackered.
It's tough to know where to start! So many good things, so much POSITIVE feedback on the future and for me, an emphatic illustration of why what we attempt to do is so far removed from mainstream re-enacting as to be a completely different hobby. It was an absolute pleasure to be 1st Sergeant of the First Company, 10th Ga this weekend. You boys worked hard at drill, performed Guard Duty with nary a murmur, played hard and were a continual source of humour and good FirPer throughout the weekend. Once again, my thanks go to Major Wheeley, Captains Boulton and O'Sullivan, Lo 'Switch' Harding, Sergeant Hammersley and Corporals Brand, Clayton and Thompson for their help, organisation and acceptance of a 1st Sergeant who can shout, sing and feck about but who has little idea or interest in the, shall we say, more mundane tasks of an Orderly Sergeant... On a personal note, it was great to work with old comrades Gus, Wes, Alf and Steve again and I loved the crack in camp with Chris Mc, Lozza, Martyn, Doc and Mickey Walsh alongside all the others mentioned. I wish we were there longer because I know I would have enjoyed the Company of anyone who took part this weekend. The Mess system has been an undoubted success and this event proved it. It doesn't matter what your affiliation, we are all seamlessly moving in the same direction - and though some are faster than others, there is no argument that we want to achieve as good a portrayal of the Civil War Infantryman as is possible in the confines of our 21st Century environment. I must commend the Civilian citizens of 'Crossroads' for their hard work and undoubted skills in portraying the underrepresented side of the Civil War. It's a pleasure living alongside those folks and their enthusiasm and accuracy just reinforces our own enjoyment of Living History. Where would we be without them? Our representation of the 1860's would be all the poorer without their input. Well done all; once again I felt proud to be at the head of the Column behind our magnificent Field Music, enjoyed talking to members of the Public who were genuinely impressed by your attention to detail and dedication and experienced some fabulous magic moments - in particular, dozing by an open campfire on the Saturday night, listening to the haunting fiddle music coming from the top end of the camp. Bad points? Noise pollution from the Top Field, including that well-known CW standard 'My Old Man's a Dustman', Camera toting 'professionals' behind every fecking tree in the camp both days and the fact the event flew by when I'd have been quite happy to have done a week... And as for the weather in mid-October? Amazing. Bring on Global Warming I say.. Nobby |

Agreed, another first rate event with you all! Great to sample a little of Scott's tactics, shame we couldn't have used the 3 rank firing system in the Sunday battle, but sure there'll be chances after a bit more practice.
Visiting the top field for soskan 'drill' on the Sunday and seeing the beer can ridden camps brought home to me just how different our approach is from the majority of the society, it's sometimes easy to forget in between events... Looking forward to the next one, be it France or later. Chris M |

Gentleman all,
What can I say. It was both a pleasure and honour to command the progressive battalion at the weekend. So few of you saw it from outside of the ranks, but the impact was awesome. I think we sometimes forget how good we are, and in contrast to those around us, we truly stood out. The slickness and professionalism of our own Dress Parade on Saturday evening truly took me aback and I got a shiver down the spine when I took the salute as you passed in review as well as when we marched back to camp on Sunday to the sound of the fife and drum. Wow. The civilian and military camps looked super, especially as dusk and dawn, and music from both soldiers and civilians added yet another hugely important dimension. It was also great to hear so much talk about continued progression and co-operation. We are far from our goal and great efforts are still required of us all. I had one chat with a couple of pards, both with great impressions, but all of us were able to identify one piece of kit that we were not 100% happy with. If we can all do this and then do something about it, then it is another step along the way. The weekend gave me such a buzz and really fired my enthusiam. Thanks to all the line officers and NCOs for their efforts and hard work. You really worked as a team, and the co-operation from the rank and file was a compliment to you all. Scott's Tactics was a real hoot and I think we should practice this further next year. Perhaps some early war scenarios are in order for AES events next season. Our battalion drill was equally fun and really shows what we are capable of in such a short period of time. And so gentleman, I have the pleasure to remain, your humble servant, Major Tom |

Congratulations to you all, that camp was awesome!
You boys are absolutely first rate, and the presence of the civilans nearby, (what an asset they are), added enormously to the overall impression as one entered the camp, quite simply outstanding! It was a real privilege to be with you guys again, albeit for only part of the weekend, (if only there was a little grazing for the horse down there!) And Saturday night at the Seedy Beaver was as good as it gets.., Staggers, yer a diamond mate! Can't wait for the next one! Regards to you all, Jim. |

Good to see one and all. Good to meet up with Bill, and I hope that is an good omen for the future. Great to see us working with ACWS elements again, Bill and the 18th lads, very welcome. Jim always good to meet up with your lot, met Ian at last and "young" Daniel, who just gets bigger and more adult. Shame Keith was taken ill as I knew he was really looking forward to it all.
Gus too loud ha ha ha ha ha.........as if I hope to meet up in the not too distant future. I am hoping to try and book a barrack block at YC, but haevy competition with blasted little cadets for space. This is fairly "central" and I hope I can get it when people are available. We'll see. Fred. |

Re: Attention... Battalion! | ||

I've got to endorse what's been said.
It must be good to see the boys from the front when we are all marching to the same tune. Trouble is, when you're in there doing it, you can't see it! Or take the pics. Taking pics is a bit awkward as it can spoil the effect, but now and again it's got to be done to capture the brilliance. I have got a few at Jim's request of him + his nag. + a few of the Seedy Beavor just to show how good it is. Give us a day or two and I'll get them transferred and a link put in place. Jim, if you want the ones of you + horse e-mailed, send us you e-address and I'll send them along. Thanks to all for their work. If the weather is better would you like to repeat the experiance next year, more frequently? Some of you don't know what you've been missing! See you next time we switch the clock back 150 years. Billy. |
