Forgive me for bringing this up but on G&G when the Irish georgian's fired down into the Irish brigade I notice the cornfed's have a lot of the Irish harp hat brass all over them!? Literally some on jackets..some on hats and was wondereing, is it possibly (depending on what scenario it is) to have a hat badge like this? My gran has a brass Irish harp which she wanted from the states for decoration that she'd let me use. I thought i'd ask I mean I know they we'rent really common but..well no harm in asking the proffessionals is there cheers guys. Stu

As for irish harps.... Check out the guidelines on the main VC site and use these to base your impression on - concentrate on the big picture for starters, trousers, jacket, hats are important and can really make an impression. Well done for asking though, instead of just turning up looking like you've been covered in glue and thrown through the window of a brass shop... you're learning buddy Chris M

However, depending on the impression and the year of the war, certain Army of the Potomac units may well have worn hat brass. Very, very rare that any Western unit wore brass. But there are exceptions. For a generic impression, which is what we undertake 90% of the time, Hat Brass is OUT! Unless of course, you want to look like a 'fresh fish' and have the mick taken out of you unmercifully - especially by any Western boys! But you can see company letters, the number of their regiment and shock horror, the odd infantry bugle on forage caps and other hats in the army of the Potomac as you quite rightly say Nobby. Although how much hat brass was worn on active campaigning seems to be the crux of the question for us. Is it, that in our move to not be seen taking part in anything farby, that we sometimes miss out on what could have been common practices. Although it is still best to stick with the PEC idea, i sometimes wonder if we under do some things?, Saying that we do wear a company letter and regimental no when doing our 124th NYSV impression so we probably have the balance correct at this time. I pride myself on not washing my uniform..so i'd like to be 100% realistic and nearing the real thing. I will be with time, BUT I do feel more connected with the confederate cause, why?!..I cannot explain becuase I dont know, I just like it. but looks around..The Federal coat feels a lot better than that darn shell jacket
