Is ticking with black stripes period correct? I most often see it with blue stripes within re-enactment, but I know it comes in red, blue, green and black etc. I have a load of black striped ticking I got cheap but I don't want to bother making stuff with it until I know it is correct. I have seen a brilliant frock coat up at Big Shanty done in brown/red, have photo to prove it too, and fair idea I have seen green too somewhere, so why not black. s31.photobucket.com/album...tfrock.jpg As a thought, I'd "tea" dye it first anyway to wash it out and take the colour out a bit. You'll need to wash cotton prior to making anything first anyway, but of course you know that? I've certainly seen mattress's in black, sure I have? Hope that helps mate (I'd go for it anyway) John H

Printed stripes are incorrect, i too have seen a variety of colors used in linings and other item,s. As for the PVT B.N.G. Schumpert frock coat ( there's also a pair of trousers as well) i have always thought what a great coat this would be to reproduce although PEC it is not. There are bloodstains on the collar from a mortal head wound received at chickamauga he was 17 when he enlisted.
